This corridor passes through some of Patna's most densely populated and commercially active zones, including Patliputra, Raja Bazar, and Patna Junction.

What's Operational Right Now?

As of March 2026, Patna Metro is operational on a 3.6 km stretch of the Blue Line between Bhootnath, Zero Mile, and New ISBT. The CMRS (Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety) has also cleared the Bhootnath–Malahi Pakri extension, which is expected to open shortly, expanding the operational network to approximately 6.2 km and 4 stations.

The much-anticipated Khemnichak Interchange Station — where Red Line and Blue Line will converge — is under active construction and is targeted to be fully operational by August 2026.

Why Patna Metro Matters for the City

Patna has long struggled with traffic congestion, especially along the Bailey Road, Ashok Rajpath, and Fraser Road corridors. A metro system connecting the city's east-west and north-south arteries is a game-changer. Daily commutes that used to take 60–90 minutes by road will shrink to under 35 minutes once both corridors are fully operational.

For students heading to PMCH, IGIMS, or NIT Patna; office-goers commuting from Danapur or Khagaul; and shoppers visiting Patna Junction markets — Patna Metro offers a safe, affordable, and traffic-free alternative to auto-rickshaws and city buses.
